A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far away… The sign world was turned upside down by the development of software that allowed sign shops to create computer generated layouts for neon channel letters. This turned a massive undertaking that was done by hand and took days to accomplish, into a simple 30-minute task. The product was called Neon Wizard, and every sign company had to have it. It saved time!

Now in 2017, using neon in channel letters is the exception, not the rule. LEDs have taken over the electrical channel letter market. And for good reason. They are inexpensive, easy to install, brilliantly bright, and energy efficient. But most sign companies have to send requests for a layout to their LED vendor and usually wait 24-48 hours for a response. When customers want a quick quote or estimate, this can be frustrating for sign shops. But Principal LED now offers the LED equivalent of Neon Wizard.

Using the LED Wizard software is simple, fast and effective. Just plug in the text of your channel letters, the height, the depth, and then the type style. Next, select the LED module you want to use, and then select “populate.” Within seconds, you have a layout in your inbox! The layout will give you LED module placement, how many power supplies are needed, total LED footage needed, and part numbers. You can then use this to do some quick estimating, and ordering supplies. If you want a brighter letter, then just go back and select a module with more lumens, and do another layout. It is really that simple!

We’ve created a layout for a GSG channel letter sign in order to give you an example of what you get in your inbox when using LED Wizard:
